Reiki Basics

What is “Reiki”? You might ask.

“Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction, relaxation, and also promotes healing. It is administered by ‘laying on hands’ and is based on the idea that an unseen ‘life force energy’ flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. (reiki.org)

“Reiki” comes from 2 Japanese words.

Rei : God’s wisdom / higher power

Ki : Life force energy

What to expect in a typical Reiki session:

It is important to find a level 2, professional Reiki practitioner. Sessions are usually done in a laying down position on a massage table in a private room, and more than likely, there will be quite, soothing music playing. Reiki is usually done over the span of 1 hour and some people even fall asleep, which is okay though, and actually encouraged because that is the time when you are in your most relaxed state. Reiki is frequently done with a gentle touch but can also be done hands-off, which does not make it any less effective. During a Reiki session, you may feel subtle waves of energy, seeing visions, feeling heat or cool waves wash over you, or you might feel nothing at all which is completely normal as well.
